Chapter 3
OPTION: Status Effects for Techs


Optionally, the GM may opt to attach Status Effects to Techs. If they do, then every Tech can have Effects (and probably should, for balance reasons). These Effects can be positive or negative, but in either case can only be used in combat.

Negative Effects are used in "attack" Techs, while positive Effects are used in "boon" Techs.

A Tech can only have two Effects maximum.

Each Effect has a point value measuring its usefulness. The maximum point value of a Tech depends on its rank.

Please note that a Tech doesn't have to use the maximum point value available to it, but it should be at least close for balance reasons (if you care about that).

The options below are the only ones available by default. That is, unless the GM declares it acceptable, a player can't spend 8 points to make the duration of an Effect 5 turns.

Buffs and debuffs can affect Core or War Abilities. (However, if you're using the optional War Forms rules, then they can only affect War Abilities.)

Each Tech must have an in-world explanation that describes the origin of the Effect. For example, if a Tech inflicts a loss of -1 FP, how does it do so according to the traits of the combatant?

Now construct a Tech for a certain rank using its maximum point value. Note, below each list of Effects is a little something that will help decrease costs.

* "Reflected" means that any FP loss or Status Effect is thrown back at the attacker, and they suffer it instead. Note, a reflected spell will only bounce twice before disappearing.
** The defender makes a free attack if they have 1 or more FP, but cannot use a Tech. This attack doesn't count against their turn.


Decreasing Boon Tech Costs

Roll 1d6 when using the Tech. If this roll fails, the Tech is still a success, but no Effects are applied.

One roll and subtraction here applies to all effects.
